Andre is currently completing an Arts/Law degree but would rather be devoting more time to writing. He dabbles in sound art and is the editor of a human rights magazine, Right Now. A slight obsession with David Foster Wallace has led to a marked decrease in the time he is able to devote to his second favourite pastime – sleeping.

Novak Hunter
Novak left Perth four years ago to try and find an artistically fulfilling career overseas, or, failing that, any reasonable job that didn’t involve having to wake up before 10am. Having yet to accomplish either of those ambitions, he currently works in television broadcast in the UK and spends his free time trying not to think about turning 30 in a couple of years.

Josh Hughes
Josh was born and bred in Perth, Western Australia. Josh first came into state care when he was three, and lived between approximately 25 different places. Leaving school at 14, he has worked in a range of jobs that included selling three-piece suits, pepperoni pizzas, and recycling old tyres. Somewhat inspired by this, Josh has recently returned to finish his schooling and is looking forward to going to university to become a Physical Education Teacher.

Kia Dowell
Kia is a young Gija woman who currently lives in Kununurra, Western Australia and works for Rio Tinto Argyle Diamonds. She is passionate about cultivating change through education and encouraging other Indigenous youth to aspire to a world of equity, where differences are celebrated rather than criticised. She dreams of the day when all Australians are standing side by side with the only ‘gap’ being the distance between the lands on which they stand.

James Fitzpatrick
In no particular order, James Fitzpatrick is a Pirate, a Poet and a Paediatrician. His passion is working in the field of Indigenous health and his dream – other than world peace- is to sail around the world in a wooden yacht. He seeks to be content, to be true to himself and to be true to others.

Ben Lodge
Ben was born into the world 11 weeks early, eager to get his life started. When Ben was five years old, he was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, which is a mild form of autism. Ben has worked his way through many challenges during his school years, and is now studying for a Computer Science degree at university. He doesn’t know what he wants to do after he finishes his degree, but thinks that “Bill Gates Junior” sounds like a nice job title.

David Nel
David is a late-twenty-something aspirational writer and academic, based in England by way of Australia and Southern Africa, where he grew up and was born respectively. His wide range of interest include cats, reading, reading about cats, science, feminism, student activism, the history of British socialism, and travel.

Alison and Emma Jaquet
Alison and Emma have recently received PhDs from the University of Western Australia in the fields of English and Psychology, respectively. Ali is pursuing her love of literature through research and teaching. Emma is happily immersed in the world of clinical psychology. When they grow up, they dream of opening a detective agency specialising in literary crime and psychological mysteries.

Lesya Bryndzia
Lesya Bryndzia is a Melbourne based writer who majored in Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne. After spending a couple years in Europe she has returned home and currently works in the publishing industry. She writes short stories, novels and lengthy ‘to do’ lists.

Adam Nicol
Adam Nicol is currently writing a PhD on nineteenth-century natural history and popular science. He loves Victorian literature and the elder Romantics, and hopes to continue writing and researching in some capacity. Adam moved to Australia from Scotland in 1995, and enjoys all of the concomitant crudities of Antipodean life, particularly its warmth and wine. He is six minutes older than his twin brother.

Joanne Anderton

Muck-up Day
Danny McGinlay
Danny McGinlay began performing stand up comedy at the age of 16 and has since traversed the globe telling jokes. He has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and is a home town favourite at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He has appeared on Rove and the Comedy Channel. This is his first attempt at telling stories without an audience present.
